Teachers can always find additional ideas and resources in our Library & Information Center. We offer children’s books, classroom activity ideas, tested lessons with an inter-disciplinary approach, as well as books on architectural styles and preservation techniques for students, teachers and the public.
Historic Preservation Education Grants
Historic Landmarks Foundation and the Indiana Humanities Council make grants of up to $2,000 for educational projects related to historic properties in Indiana. Eligible projects include lectures, workshops, conferences, production of audiovisual materials, heritage and cultural tourism programs, and educational publications. Proposals for Heritage Preservation Education Grants are due in early March each year. Completed applications are due in April, and grant awards are announced in May. Historic Landmarks Foundation offers continuing education for teachers, designed to help educators incorporate historic places into their lesson plans.
For a job well-done
Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana recognizes educators, school-based programs, or youth serving agencies for their efforts to increase preservation awareness among Indiana youth with the Sandi Servaas Memorial Award presented annually in September, accompanied by $1000 prize!
Past winners have included a student-led group that raised money to save a historic gymnasium in New Harmony, a high school English Department from Indianapolis that wrote travel articles promoting historic sites, and a Lafayette Geography Club that produced exhibits and travelogues on historic neighborhoods in the community.
